Annandale man wins $1 million in lottery

When Jose Flores Velasquez of Annandale went to the Virginia Lottery’s customer service center in Woodbridge, he was very happy to be redeeming what he thought was a $600 winning ticket.

However, when lottery staffers looked at it, they quickly discovered the ticket was worth a lot more – It was a $1 million winner, states a press release from the Virginia Lottery.

Flores Velasquez had bought the 20X the Money ticket at the Safeway on Little River Turnpike in Annandale, where he had stopped after work to pick up a pack of soft drinks.

He had the choice of taking the full $1 million prize over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $759,878 before taxes.

He chose the cash option. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Flores Velasquez is the second top prize winner in the latest version of 20X the Money (game #2128); that means one top prize remains unclaimed.
